The six dating types during the lockdown. The corona pandemic has not made the dating and sex life of singles any easier. One just wants to go for a walk in the park, the other comes over for a quick and does everything to get home before curfew. Panoramas Jiska Kroon and Sara Luijters explain the different lockdown dating types.

Sex work, how does that work at the moment?

Non-medical contact professions – and therefore also sex work – are currently prohibited. Marike van der Velden (37), the owner of high class escort agency Society Service, says that the number of bookings by Dutch clients has not decreased in the past year. “They even set aside money to take an escort longer on a date as soon as it is possible again, or already book two ladies at the same time.” The number of international clients, who largely comprise her customer base, has decreased drastically due to the travel restrictions. An annual highlight that Dutch men look forward to is the Virgin Experience. A service that, according to Van der Velden, is often booked just before the turn of the year, but had to be postponed due to the current lockdown. “Some men don't want to start the new year as virgins.”

Incidentally, Van der Velden has made a virtue of necessity and has entered into a partnership with a professional private chef. Now that eating out is not possible, this private chef cooks dinner at the customer's home during a date. An appointment with an escort or gigolo through Society Service is therefore not just about sex. “The social aspect is just as important. Especially now that many people feel a little more alone during corona.” Self-employed sex worker Daisy (30) notices that men are extra needy since the lockdown. Despite the restrictions, she offers her services through a website. “My phone is red hot all day. From video calling, webcam sex to short and long appointments in a hotel or at customers' homes.” The curfew does not affect her work either. “Customers often offer a higher amount, so that any fine is included in my price.”
